At least you’ll get a blog post out of it About two dozen of my readers will understand when I say that this post by Jeff Jarvis (the one headlined “Life Candy”) demonstrates that, here in the future, everyone is a fanzine fan now.

(In fact Jeff Jarvis looks more than a little bit like Bill Bowers. But we already knew that there are actually only 15,000 people in the world.) [09:14 PM]

Guess I'm one of the 2 dozen people. In fact when I read Jeff Jarvis's post I wondered, "Do you supppose Nick Denton is related to Frank?

I have this kind of reaction too, but since I don't blog, I inflict it on all my friends on rec.arts.sf.fandom. (Where we all miss Patrick very much.) I can still remember my delight when I watched Good Eats for the first time and Alton fixed fried macaroni and cheese. "RASFF must know of this," I caroled to the cats and shortly they did.

Having an audience you know will appreciate some of the more, uh, idiosyncratic things you enjoy is something to be treasured. Wasn't it nice of Al Gore to give us this cool medium for sharing?

Jarvis said: "It's either a form of generosity or ego -- I've never decided which -- that drives us to share such life candy with our audience."

This has never been an either/or choice, of course. It can be, and usually is, some of both.

But I doubt some ego is ever not there.

Now that we've noted that bloggers are emulating and defining for themselves ancient sf fanzine fan traits, practices, customs, and behaviors, I urge those in the know to join me in gearing up my campaign to introduce such eminently useful terms as "egoboo," and, most of all, "DNQ," and "DNP" to blogdom!

("Egoboo" = noun, the egoboost of being linked to and commented positively upon; "DNQ" = Do Not Quote; "DNP" = Do Not Post.) "You gave me great egoboo with that post, but that I think so is DNQ/DNP, please."

I should say that, about my campaign, I faunch for it to succeed. HHO 1/2K.

Who wants to write "The Enchanted Modem"?

Come to think of it, I don't know why it didn't occur to me before: blogger faanfiction!

And, of course, slash.

Dear Gary:

Or maybe not.

Ooog. I started to write a few lines of blog slash by way of demonstrating that Patrick is right, but...

Let's just say Patrick is really, really right.

Ick.

Lenny: you make someone craxy.

Patrick: are you trying to say that I had one once, but my wheels fell off, or what?

I am the captain of my own spaceship, as you both know.
