Great minds. Electrolite’s comment section: where tomorrow’s resistance ideas are anticipated last month!

Did they get the idea from the estimable Karen Cooper? Who knows, but it’s a good one. [03:27 PM]

I thought it up independently, to be sure. But there's those magnificent kids at OSU who did this in 2002.

I wanna be like them.

Very cool.

Someone remind me to watch the inaugeration.

So are we gonna have an SF contingent like last time?

Friends of mine who live in Maryland and work for the government, did this in 2000. So it's definitely a doable strategy....

I have another suggestion. Bring flags (if allowed), and wave them until the motorcade comes in sight.

Then furl them and put them over your shoulder as you turn your back.

Good luck. You're going to have to sign a loyalty oath just to get into town this time, and maybe leave a hostage for them.

OT (an open thread not being available)-- From "What China Miéville Knows": Because I'm a complete control freak I was teetotal until I was 29 and I've never done any drugs, not even dope. I'm an unbelievable lightweight for a 200lb man - a glass and a half of wine I'm anyone's.

Note to self: bring wine to Glasgow. Carry it with you at all times, in case you run into the hunk writer.

Xopher: I made that note as well. Next time we're drinking in the kitchen at the Tor party ask me to tell you about my initial reaction to China Mieville.

Oh. I thought China was a woman's name, for some reason. Hm. Probably because it ends it "a".

We actually didn't know about the OSU idea until afer we thought about the idea, which of course, is as old as defying authority, itself. Turning you back on someone is a recognizable form of dissent across many if not all cultures. However, the idea for doing it on inauguration day came into my head sometime in September, I think. We put out a "call to planning and action" in early October and did some research where we found the OSU group, who we tried to contact but only got a hold of them about two weeks ago, so the efforts are now linked thru the tybob.com site which is great. Karen Cooper had a great idea as did the OSU students. There are as many ways to turn your back on bush as there are ways to say "fuck you"-at least a million. Let's all be creative and find other actions that undermine his authority while we committ to building the alternatives that are needed to make our world safer and more just. Thanks, Jet
