Roger de Venables

Notes:

"In 1259, the Chronicle of St. Werburgh records a trial in which Sir Roger recovered possession of the church of Astbury against the abbot of St. Werburgh. The monks claimed it was recovered by a false assize. Shortly afterwards it was regained by the abbot and within a year, the monks had the opportunity of recording the death of Sir Roger, as the judgment of heaven in their favor." Roger married Alice Pennington about 1240. Alice (daughter of Alan de Pennington) was born in in of Pennington, Lancashire, England. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Married (1) Wenthliam, divorced. She had numerous children, not certain which was mother of Roger.

Notes:

Some lines trace through her father Watheof and grandfather Wolfric to a great-grandfather "Wolfaith," alleged to have been a son of Ivo, Vicomte de Cotentin. I believe Wolfaith to be a confabulation. For more on supposed sons of Ivo, see Todd A. Farmerie here.

Waltheof and Wolfric are in Ormerod (volume 3, "Venables and Venables-Vernon of Kinderton"): "Margery, dau of Walthew, son of Wolfric". Which is good enough to list them.
