  1. 2.  Uriah Jasper Hammonds was born 10 Sep 1840, Benton, Polk, Tennessee (son of Jesse Hammonds and Martha Mourning Adams); died 27 Dec 1915, Gibson County, Tennessee.

    Notes:

His supposed Civil War service doesn't actually show up in any official databases or lists. The only source we have for it are a note on the Hammonds Family Tree page (http://hammondsfamilytree.familytreeguide.com/getperson.php?personID=I416&tree=T1), and his name on the following two lists, both maintained by a Joe Stout:

    http://tn-roots.com/tngibson/WAR/companyE-31.htm

    http://files.usgwarchives.net/tn/gibson/military/civilwar/rosters/companyE-31.txt

The first of these lists appears to be a "Please send us the name of your veteran ancestor!" kind of deal, which makes me wonder whether this isn't a family legend, with his name having been provided to Joe Stout by the same folks who put that note on the Hammonds page.

On the other hand, Civil War records do have holes in them. Particularly Confederate records.

Uriah married Mary Elizabeth Bobbitt 27 Mar 1864, Gibson County, Tennessee. Mary (daughter of Zebulon Bobbitt and Elizabeth Tate) was born 15 Apr 1846, Tennessee; died 9 Jan 1892, Tennessee. [Group Sheet]

  3. 10.  Jesse Adams was born 1753, Granville, North Carolina (son of Jesse Adams and Martha Johnson); died 6 Dec 1835, Humphreys, Tennessee.

    Notes:

From Jesse Adams's application for a Revolutionary War pension, 20 Sep 1832:

"[S]tates he was mustered into service at Kingston in the state of North Carolina under Capt John Whitley and Matthew Crellars Lieutenant under Col Wm Caswell and marched monks corner in South Carolina thence to the White Cliffs in view of Augusta and down through Augusta and down near the mpouth of Briar Creek in pursuit of the British and when they got there they had taken up the bridge and that our enemy was stationed between Briar Creek and the Savannah River until the British army marched -- and marched around and came down on the back of our troops; that he was sick at the time of the battle of Briar creek and was not at the same -- he then returned home to Franklin co North Carolina 1781."

From the Hammonds Family Tree page:

"In 1769 there is a record of deed of land in Bute Co., N.C. (Also shows deeds in 1774 and 1777 where he sold land.) Jesse Adams served in the Revolutionary War. He applied for a pension in 1832 while living in Humphreys Co., TN. In 1810 he is in the Nash Co., NC census. He moved that same year and is in the Smith Co., Tn census. In 1820 they are still in Smith Co.

"They then moved to Humphreys Co., TN shortly after that because Jesse Hammonds and his wife Martha Mourning Adams married there in 1823. Jesse Adams died in Humphreys Co., TN on Dec 6, 1835, he was 82 years old! Nancy Alice (Nica) continued to live there until some of her children along with Jesse and Mourning moved to Gibson Co. around 1850. She then lived with some of her children. They had 12 children and they migrated through TN, KY, GA, AL."

Note that Bute County, North Carolina was carved out of Granville County in 1764.

Jesse married Unicy 26 May 1782. Unicy was born 21 Nov 1766, North Carolina; died 1860. [Group Sheet]

  4. 11.  Unicy was born 21 Nov 1766, North Carolina; died 1860.

    Notes:

    Also called Audrey; Nancy.

The Hammonds Family Tree page gives her name as Nancy Alice and adds a "???". It has her birth date as 21 Nov 1766, just as we do.

A note on their page for her spouse, Jesse Adams, refers to her as "Nancy Alice (Nica)". It's easy to see how "Unicy" could be derived from that.
