Escheator of Worcestershire, 4 Nov 1418 - 23 Nov 1419. Warwick chamberlain of the Exchequer, Dec 1418 to his death.

"Merely tenants of the bishops of Worcester in the manor of Throckmorton, the Throckmortons owed their rise in the early 15th century almost entirely to John's legal and administrative ability and the family connexion with the earls of Warwick." [History of Parliament, citation details below]

They are GX10-grandparents of Jane Austen on one line:

      John Throckmorton (d. 1445) = Eleanor Spinney
      Thomas Throckmorton (b. 1412) = Margaret Olney
      Robert Throckmorton (d. 1518) = Katherine Marrow (d. 1505)
      George Throckmorton = Katherine Vaux
      Clement Throckmorton (d. 1573) = Catherine Nevill
      Catherine Throgmorton = Thomas Harby (d. 1594)
      Emma Harby (1590-1622) = Robert Charlton (d. 1670)
      Emma Charlton = Henry Barnard (d. 1680)
      Elizabeth Barnard (d. 1719) = James Brydges (1642-1714)
      Mary Brydges (1666-1703) = Theophilus Leigh (1647-1725)
      Thomas Leigh (1696-1764) = Jane Walker (1705-1768)
      Cassandra Leigh (1739-1827) = George Austen (1731-1805)
      Jane Austen (1775-1817)

And on another line, her 11X-great grandparents:

      John Throckmorton (d. 1445) = Eleanor Spinney
      John Throckmorton (d. 1436) = Elizabeth Bruges
      Christopher Throckmorton = (Unknown) Hartley
      William Throckmorton = Margaret Matthew
      Thomas Throckmorton (d. 1586) = Margaret Whittington
      Thomas Throckmorton (d. 1607) = Elizabeth Berkeley
      Mary Throckmorton (d. 1632) = James Scudamore (d. 1619)
      Mary Scudamore = Giles Brydges (d. 1637)
John Brydges (1623-1652) = Mary Pearle
      James Brydges (1642-1714) = Elizabeth Barnard (d. 1719)
      Mary Brydges (1666-1703) = Theophilus Leigh (1647-1725)
      Thomas Leigh (1696-1764) = Jane Walker (1705-1768)
      Cassandra Leigh (1739-1827) = George Austen (1731-1805)
      Jane Austen (1775-1817)

And they have a genealogical Shakespeare connection, albeit a recondite one through their GX4-granddaughter Muriel Sheldon's husband Francis Clare:

      John Throckmorton (d. 1445) = Eleanor Spinney
      Thomas Throckmorton (b. 1412) = Margaret Olney
      Robert Throckmorton (d. 1518) = Katherine Marrow (d. 1505)
      George Throckmorton = Katherine Vaux
      Robert Throckmorton (1513-1581) = Muriel Berkeley (d. 1542)
      Anne Throckmorton (1540-1603) = Ralph Sheldon (d. 1613)
      Muriel Sheldon = Francis Clare

The abovenamed Francis Clare was a grandson of Edward Blunt (d. 1557) via his mother Anne Blunt. Francis Clare's aunt Joyce Blunt married John Combe2 (d. 1558) of Stratford-upon-Avon. (Their son John Combe3 died in 1614, leaving William Shakespeare £5 in his will.) John Combe2 was the son of John Combe1 (d. 1550) and his wife Katherine. Katherine married, secondly, Adrian Quiney (d. 1553). Their great-grandson Thomas Quiney (1589-1655) married Judith Shakespeare (1585-1662), daughter of William Shakespeare and Anne Hathaway.
