  Paul C. Reed in "Another Look at Joan de Harley: Will Her Real Descendants Please Rise?" (citation details below) states that this Alexander Besford "was a knight of the shire in 1344", citing T. Nash, Collections for the History of Worcestershire (1781) which says that Besford served in the Parliament at Sarum in 18 Edward III (25 Jan 1344 - 24 Jan 1345).
