  • Notes
    • Her birth surname was definitely Butler. In 1677 "THOMASIN the wife of FRANCIS HEYDEN of St. Maries County" was granted administration of the estate of her late brother Thomas Butler "late of Charles County deceased."

It is tempting to speculate that Thomasin may have been related in some way to the gateway-ancestor Butlers of Kent Island, Maryland and Westmoreland County, Virginia, but no evidence exists that her brother Thomas Butler of Charles County, Maryland was connected to them. It is known for certain that other people named Butler were in Maryland and Virginia at the same time as the Kent Island and Westmoreland family descended from John and Joan Butler of Little Birch Hall, Essex.

Abstract of Thomasin (Butler) Hayden's will:

      Hayden, Thomasin, St. Mary's Co., 19th Sept., 1701; 27th Nov., 1702.

To dau. Penelope Allman, 12 pence.

To son William, ex., dwelling plantation "Small Hopes." In event of his death without issue, to pass to dau. Mary Reeder and hrs.

Test: Rich'd Chappele, Wm. Smith, Benj. Buckler.
