He was closely related to John Cokeworthy of Launceston, Cornwall, who served in Parliament a staggering 19 times, but it is not certain that the two men were father and son.
His brother, also named John, was illegitimate, yet despite this he became registrar to Bishop Edmund Lacy, accompanying him when the bishop was transferred from Hereford to Exeter in 1420. Brother John's 1431 will names the MP, his wife, and his daughter Avice.
In 1424 John Cokkeworthy and Margery his wife were given license to hold divine service at their chapel at 'Ermyscombe.'
