  • Notes
    • Hypothesized by several researchers as a son or grandson of Clement Newton who died in St. Mary's County in 1760 and whose will mentions an unborn child. If Archibald is a son, he must have been the unborn child, thus dating his birth back to 1760 or so. But Archibald might also have been a son, rather than a brother, of Gabriel Newton, son of Clement, who died in Washington DC in 1808.

Either way, a Gabriel and an Archibald Newton show up on the 1790 census for Montgomery County, Maryland along with a Clement Newton (presumably Clement Jr.), all living next door to each other. Further, Gabriel Newton married a Henrietta who was the widow of Ignatius Wheatley, and of course our Archibald Newton married a Wheatley.
