    • Prebendary of St. Paul's and Rochester cathedrals. Rector of Cliffe, Kent. Rector of Cliff-at-Hoo, Kent. In 1584 he became a canon of Windsor, in which office he served alongside his son-in-law the Rev. Thomas Sheafe. He was a chaplain to the Archbishop of Canterbury, Edmund Grindal, who was his wife's uncle.

      In 1883, Canon Scott Robertson called him "a man of deep erudition, a scholar and a courtier...we must suppose him to have been a persona grata in the eyes of Queen Elizabeth."
