Notes - Doctor of Law. Studied first at Leiden and then at Orleans. At Leiden, he belonged to the Gelderland-Overijssel student fraternity. In the Netherlands, he was a court advocate and a captain in the service of the Estates General.
Upon emigrating to New Amsterdam he became first counselor to Peter Stuyvesant, 1653-57, and schout fiscaal in 1656-57. He was one of the original proprietors of New Utrecht.
