  • Notes
    • Lawyer and politician. Deputy from Guilford to the Connecticut General Assembly, 1696-97. Deputy from Windsor several times between 1701 and 1718. Speaker of the General Assembly at least eight times.

According to William B. Weeden's Economic and Social History of New England, 1620-1789, this John Eliot's library was unusual and comprehensive for its time. "It contains 243 titles. The brilliant and permanent literature of Queen Anne had made hardly any impression in our colonies, but this collection had two volumes of 'The Tattler.' It is a most heterogenous lot, old histories, sermons, a few medical books, and more upon law, miscellaneous literature, almost all now unknown to the ordinary reader."
