  Knight of the shire for Hampshire in 1420, 1423, 1425, 1431, and 1442. Sheriff of Hampshire 1427-28, 1440-41. Sheriff of Wiltshire 1434-35. Served under Edward, Duke of York, at Agincourt, where he was probably knighted. "In 1442 he endorsed a proposal in Parliament for systematic patrols to deal with piracy, and shortly afterwards was chosen to serve as chief commander of a force of 565 men which policed the Channel.
