• Notes

  Sometimes referred to as "Joan Christopher", but we don't actually know her maiden name, just the name of her first husband, Mountstephen. However, as Jon M. Stallard points out (citation details below), it's notable how many of her descendants had Christopher as their given name -- including four of PNH's direct ancestors, all direct descendants of Joan through her marriage to Edward Thompson, whether or not her first husband Thomas Butler was also a PNH ancestor.
