    • Served in the Continental Army.

"[David Wright and Hannah Bailey] came up the Connecticut in a boat on their wedding journey, and a sister of either the bride or the bridegroom came with them. At one place where they stopped for the night, Major Wright told the people that the ladies with him were, unfortunately, both deaf; then he went back to the boat and told his wife and sister that the people in the house were deaf, and so he had them screaming away at each other at a great rate. At last one of the travelers asked her hostess how long she and her husband had been so deaf. She replied 'Why, we are not deaf; we thought you were.'"
