  He first appears in Plymouth colony records on 7 Jun 1636, when he charged Stephen Hopkins, who was by then assistant to the governor, with assaulting and injuring him. Hopkins was found at fault, fined £5, and ordered to pay 40s to Tisdale. According to Taunton records, he was killed by natives during the attack on Taunton, 27 Jun 1675, during King Philip's War. However, John Freeman wrote a letter dated 3 June 1675 saying that John Tisdale was one of three killed that morning.
