Notes - Also spelled Tibbot, Tippet, Tibbet, Tibbets. "Walter immigrated to New England in 1640 as part of the Blinman Company, led by Rev. Richard Blinman. The Company initially settled in Green's Harbor (later called Marshfield) in the Plymouth Colony, where in 1641, Walter and some other members of the Company were propounded for freemanship. The Company, however, quickly had a falling out with other residents of Green's Harbor and, in 1642, resettled in Gloucester in the Massachusetts Bay Colony. Walter became a freeman of the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1642 and was chosen as a Gloucester town selectman in 16421646 and in 1650–1651." [Chase W. Ashley, citation details below]
The published VR of Gloucester (1917-1924, volume 3, page 309) says that he died "14:6m:1652", but the published probate records of Essex County (citation details below) say "deceased 14:6:1651". Given that the published VR says that his widow ("wid. Tybbit") married John Harding on 22 Apr 1652, it seems likely that the death date given by that source for Walter, "14:6m:1652", is a mistranscription.
