  At Jamestown 23 May 1625; removed to Maryland in 1638. Member of the Provincial Council, 1638-44, and of the Maryland Assembly, 1639, 1641, 1642, and 1648. Acting Governor and Lieutenant-General of Maryland, 1643-44. “A band of Parliamentarians led by Richard Ingle and William Claiborne attacked St. Mary’s City on February 14, 1644/5, and carried Giles Brent, Father Andrew White, and others in chains to England.
