Notes - Graduated from Magdalen College as bachelor by 1489, doctor by 1495. Elected president of Magdalen College 20 Jan 1507, he resigned before his installation, and yet a majority of the college fellows still expressed a preference for him at a subsequent election. Installed by Henry VIII as Bishop of Exeter in 1519. Present at the Field of the Cloth of Gold in 1520. Much involved in diplomacy, he was dutifully obedient to his monarch but not an enthusiast of the Reformartion. He resigned at the command of Edward VI in 1551, was succeeded by Miles Cloverdale, and was then restored by Queen Mary in 1553.
