• Notes

  The 1880, 1900, and 1920 censuses all say that both of his parents were born in Ireland. He is listed in 1900 as a "fish and oyster man," in 1920 as a porter, and in 1930 as a worker in a fish store. Household members listed in the 1905 New York state census: Laurence King, 47 Paulene King, 47 John F King, 21 Lillian Dickenson, 28 Dora Enders, 78 Frank Gannon, 21 Robt Wilson, 22 Joseph Magnell, 24 Joseph Wilson, 20 He was alive for the 1930 census. A Lawrence King is recorded as dying in Manhattan on 21 May 1930, born about 1858. This death record may or may not refer to our man. Also, a Lawrence J. King is recorded as marrying a "Lillie Canavan" on 4 Feb 1880 in Manhattan. Our Lawrence King is recorded as married to a "Nellie" by the time of the 1880 census. So "Nellie" and "Lillie Canavan" may be the same person, or not.
