Notes - 6th Earl of Leicester. Sometimes called Simon V de Montfort. The leader of the baronial opposition to Henry III, culminating in the Second Barons' War. Effectively ruler of England from the Battle of Lewes (14 May 1264) to the Battle of Evesham (4 Aug 1265), in which he was killed.
Widely regarded as a foundational figure in the development of parliamentary government, he was also a merciless anti-Semite who oversaw multiple pogroms in which hundreds of Jews were murdered and many more driven out of England.
