• Notes

  Count of Schwalenberg. Founder of the dynasties of Waldeck, Pyrmont, and Schwalenberg. Said to have been a son of Heinrich or Hermann I von Schwalenberg. According to Leo van de Pas (citation details below), the Paderborn bishop Bernhard I von Oesede (1127-1160) was probably his cousin or brother-in-law. "On the advice of Bishop Bernhard I, Widekind and his wife founded the Abbey of Marienmünster as the family cloister. On 15 August 1128 Bishop Bernhard consecrated the abbey and its church. Widekind was mentioned in 1136 at the diet of Wurzburg. He travelled with Emperor Lothar to Italy and probably died there about 11 June 1136." [Leo van de Pas, citation details below]
