  John Kenney and wife Mary, no dates or parentage for either, are given as the parents of Josiah Kenney in the record of his 1706 birth at Topsfield. John is called "Jr.," so presumably Josiah's grandfather was also named John. Wikitree makes this John Kenney the John Kennee who is recorded as born in Salem (or at any rate included in the published Salem records, noted as imported from Essex County Quarterly Court records) on 15 Aug 1689, "s. John". At first this seemed to us a little implausible on chronological grounds; this John Kennee would need to have fathered Josiah when he was 16, not impossible but not common in that time and place. A better fit, we thought, was the John Kenne who appears in Salem records as born 25 Mar 1676, "s. John and Elizabeth (Looke)." However, according to the reasonably well-regarded Ancestors of Guilford Solon Tingley and His Wife Martha Pamelia Meyers (citation details below): [1] the John who was born in 1676 died young; [2] the John of 1689 was also a son of John Kenney and Elizabeth Looke; [3] John of 1689 married a woman (named Mary!) who was thirteen years older than he was; and [4] among their listed children is a Josiah, their third. So we are tentatively going with this model.
