  • Notes
    • "James Crandall (his name being spelled 'Crandoll' and 'Crendall') appears in lists of Westerleigh residents in the manorial court book mostly as absent from annual views of frankpledge (courts of record held on a manor) from 1624 to 1628, in 1631, 1636, 1647, and on 11 October 1649. On 15 October 1634, the manor's jury presented John Hedges and James Crendall of Kendleshire to remove their subtenants before the feast of St. Thomas next (21 December) (Kendleshire or Kendalshire is a hamlet in the western part of the parish of Westerleigh; it is best-known now as a golf course). The manor court on 28 Oct. 1636 ordered James Crendall to remove a family that he had allowed to live on his property or else give security to the parish before Christmas on pain of a fine of £5. The surviving Westerleigh manorial records unfortunately have a gap in their coverage from 1653 to 1668." [Paul M. Gifford, citation details below]
