• Notes

  Her Find a Grave page has her parents as John Zirkle (1766-1839) and Eleanor Jones (1772-1838), but a note posted to the page by Becky Perdue makes a convincing case that this is in error. Perdue says that Mary Catherine Zirkle's father died when she was young; this is confirmed by J. William Harpine (citation details below) who says that her father Michael Zirkle died in 1793, when Mary Catherine was eight. According to Perdue, Mary Catherine was raised by her grandfather, Andrew Zirkle, who signed for her marriage; Perdue says she has documentation for this.
