  "Dr. Douglas A. Payne. Services for Dr. Douglas A. Payne, an ear, nose and throat surgeon in Chicago for nearly 60 years who died yesterday, will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow in the chapel at 5107 North Clark street. Dr. Payne was 92 years old. A graduate of Johns Hopkins university, Dr. Payne was instructor for many years at the College of Physicians and Surgeons in Chicago. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Veda Macdonald. His home was at 1058 Catalpa avenue." [Chicago Tribune, 25 Nov 1943, p. 39. Note that the statement that he was 92 years old at death is almost certainly an exaggeration; multiple records point to a birth year of 1857, making him 86 when he died.
