• Notes

  He called himself variously Folsom, Folsum, Foulsham, and notably on one occasion, "John ffoulsam alias Smith." He emigrated, with his wife, in 1638 on the Diligent. Fellow emigrant Daniel Cushing noted the presence on board of "John Foulsham and his wife and two servants [who] came from Old Hingham and settled in New Hingham." Also on board were her parents Edward and Mary Gilman. Selectman of Hingham in 1645. Representative to the General Court in 1659. In 1679 New Hampshire was established as a royal colony separate from Massachusetts, and John Folsom served on the council of its first governor, John Cutt.
