Notes - His parentage is unknown. Despite widespread claims to this effect, he was not a son of the William Hoskins/Hodgkins who first appears in Plymouth in 1634, then at Taunton ion 1690 and back to Plymouth in 1692. That William had a son named William who married Sarah Caswell.
It has been suggested that this William Hodgkins was the man of that name baptized 27 Oct 1622 at St. Giles Cripplegate, London, son of another William Hodgkins. A birth date on 1622 aligns with his deposition of 29 Sep 1691, when he stated that he was about 69 years old and that he had been at Ipswich for about 50 years, but there is no other evidence to connect him to the London baptismal record, and William Hodgkins is hardly an uncommon name.
