  B.A. at Magdalen College, Oxford, 3 Nov 1582. M.A., 22 Jul 1587. A brief account of his career at Magdalen by W. D. Macray in A Register of the Members of Magdalen College (London, 1901) asserts that he was born in Yorkshire, but no record of his birth has been found.
