• Notes

  According to his Find a Grave page, the first school in Indianpolis (Iowa) was taught by Richard Mayberry. He is widely said to have been a son of William Mayberry (born in Pittsburgh on 25 Jan 1776, died in Indianapolis, Iowa on 12 Nov 1862), and his wife Elizabeth Babb, but while this seems entirely plausible we have found no positive evidence for it.
