    • He was admitted a freeman of Boston in 1644. He was a soap maker.

      TK has noted that as a soap maker (or "soap boiler" as the contemporary term had it), he would have been working with carbolic acids, which were often a byproduct of the processes engaged in by "salters", a profession represented in his daughter Martha's in-laws.
