    • "For all practical purposes, Thomas Axtell received only a pittance in the 1638 will of his father. This suggests that, at the tender age of just 20, Thomas had already received his portion, or that he had been apprenticed out in such a way that his estate was already established, or that father and son had come to some insurmountable difference of opinion. It might also be that Thomas's uncle Henry Axtell had bequeathed a good legacy to Thomas and father William found it unnecessary to add to it. Whatever the cause, Thomas's English prospects were sufficiently bleak by 1641 that he considered taking his small family across the ocean to New England."       Emigrated sometime between 1641 and when he took the Sudbury oath of allegience, 9 Jul 1645.
