  • Notes
    • Owensboro Messenger, 1 Dec 1900, p. 7: "Mrs Lee Hayden has returned from an extended visit to her daughter, Mrs. Daniel McSweeney, of Chicago, Ohio."

We have found no record of the marriage of any Daniel McSweeney to any of the daughter of Lee Hayden and Madora Clark, but the record of the 23 Jul 1922 marriage, in Willard, Huron County, Ohio, of Margaret Elizabeth McSweeney to Hugh Robert Sullivan, gives the bride's parents as Daniel Chas. McSweeney and Mary R. Hayden. This fits perfectly: The "Chicago, Ohio" referred to in the above paragraph in the Messenger was a town in Huron County, which subsequently renamed itself, first, Chicago Junction, and second, in 1918, Willard.

Given all of the above, Mary Louise Donnelly's statement that Mary R. Hayden, daughter of Lee Hayden and Madora Clark, died before 1900, has to be a mistake.
