  • Notes
    • He drowned when his small craft capsized in a Thanksgiving-weekend storm in Saginaw Bay. Four young men were pitched into the water; two of them were rescued, and two drowned.

According to Jeannette Hayden, he was supposed to report to his induction center the following week, and just prior to the funeral, the director of the induction center arrived to, as she put it, make sure he was really dead. She was summarily ejected by the outraged family.

PNH's grandfather Everett White was present for this funeral and the event preceding it, and reportly much grieved. Less than two weeks later he, too, was dead.
