Notes - First Prince of Dombes and eleventh lord of Beaujeu. He fought alongside Louis VIII during the Albigensian crusade. In 1226, following the sudden death of the king, he was made governor of Languedoc. In 1232 he accomanied his nephew Baldwin II to Constantinople for Baldwin's coronation as Latin Emperor.
In 1247, Louis IX made him constable for the Egyptian campaign in the following year. During the siege of Mansura he tried unsuccessfully to save the king's brother Robert I, Count of Artois. He died in Syria.
