Notes - He was a draper. Not absolutely proven as the father of Samuel Hotchkiss who emigrated to New England, but John Hotchkiss's will lists a set of offspring whose names are substantially mirrored in the names of the emigrant's children; furthermore, when the will comes to John Hotchkiss's son Samuel, it makes it clear that this Samuel is somewhere far away and that his father doesn't know if he's alive or dead. Other circumstantial evidence includes the fact that the emigrant showed distinct signs of the kind of affluence (his household contained silver spoons) that would come from being the son of exactly the kind of successful merchant that John Hotchkiss was.
