Notes - The report of the marriage of Jennie Rose Elder to Escar A. Smith in the 19 Sep 1920 issue of the Messenger-Inquirer does not confirm that this is the Jennie Rose Elder who was a daughter of William Walter Elder and Anna Justine Newton. However, the 8 Feb 1936 Messenger obituary for Anna Justine Newton lists, among children that survive her, "Generose Smith, Mount Carmel, Ill." And the 28 Aug 1941 Messenger obituary for her sister Lena Evelyn (Elder) Key mentions her among the five surviving sisters.
