  • Notes
    • This Hugh Dutton is widely recorded (by Ormerod and others) as the husband of Joan Holand, daughter of Robert de Holand and Elizabeth de Samlesbury. Hugh Dutton's heir Thomas Dutton was his son by Joan. But Joan was this Hugh Dutton's second wife. Proof of Hugh's prior marriage, to Isabel, a daughter of Hamon de Mascy and Mary de Beauchamp, is set forth in W. H. B. Bird's 1900 paper "The Representation of the Barons of Dunham," the pertinent pages of which can be downloaded here. Bird also establishes that Katherine, one of this Hugh's three daughters by his first marriage, married a Pulford, by whom she was the mother of Robert de Pulford whose daughter Joan married the Robert Grosvenor who died in 1396.
