"He took an active part in the wars of Edward III serving in Scotland, Flanders, and Brittany. He served in the Crécy campaign where he had a following of 160 men, including 3 bannerets and 27 knights and at the siege of Calais in 1346, and was joint commander of the 1st division at the battle of Poitiers, 19 Sept 1356, where his skillful handling of the archers contributed to the victory."
