Notes - First recorded in New England on 5 Mar 1656, when he was one of those presented before a Hartford court for "smoaking in the street contra to law." As tradition has it, he was fined, paid his fine, and re-lit his pipe as he walked out of the courtroom.
While his clearly Continental given name has inflamed the imaginations of centuries of his descendants, nothing is in fact known of his origins, or of his exact date of death.
He was a Lyme town committeeman in 1677.
