• Notes

  First recorded in Plymouth in 1637, when his indenture was transferred from John Holmes to John Coomes. The articles of indenture describe him as "of Colchester, in the County of Essex," but it is unknown whether this refers to the English town or to the town in Essex County, Massachusetts then called Colchester and now called Salisbury. Freeman in 1653; surveyor in 1655. Freeman of Dartmouth, 29 May 1670.
