    He went to New England with his father in 1630, the first of at least eight Atlantic crossings in his lifetime. He was a man of many interests and offices, both in New England and during England's commonwealth period. Notably, back in New England after the Restoration, Richard Saltonstall donated £50 to support the fugitive regicides William Goffe and Edward Whalley, and he was one of the few people who knew where in New England they were hiding.
