My favorite trailer of the year so far was the one for The Last Samurai. Very cool and atmospheric, and other than a general sense of honor and adventure in Japan, I have no idea what it's about. Works for me.

Frank Reade, Jr.? Similarly, I believe Quatermain was replaced because it was assumed we provinicials wouldn't know who he was. (I don't necessarily object to this -- he seems the one least likely to translate well to a Big Action Blow Zeppelins Up Movie, which looks like what we're going to get.

But oh, it's that and a thousand other likely twitches, fudges, and "improvements" that'll make it something barely recognizable from the original. With luck it will still be entertaining.

Analogies come to mind: never eating homemade chicken so I won't be upset at what McDonald's does to their nuggets. Never seeing Mr. Deeds Goes to Town so I don't mind what Adam Sandler did to it. Mind you, I never rode on the original "Pirates of the Caribbean," so I'll be able to view the movie without expecting my seat to move.
