In my line of work a lengthy discussion of RTO (Recovery Time Objective) vs. RPO (Recovery Point Objective) would ensue, boring the hell out of everyone.

The short version is, server dies, you always lose some data. How much is a function of how much money is spent on data protection. Sigh.

I had issues as well, while trying to migrate my archives from Blogger to Wordpress. Kept getting "Broken Pipe" error messages. For a while, I was concerned that my archives where spilling over into Blogger's basement, where some surly Janitor would have to mop them up.

I read the errors as denial of service on the DNS because the effect was very much intermittent though I might have better interpreted the shortage of new comments.

I fished a laptop out of a dumpster last week, polished up and reinstalled Windows, and brought it back East to give to my folks. One of the sites I've been trying to reach has been Making Light and not being able to find it made me wonder if I had mis-entered a DNS setting.
