My boyfriend from back in high school found our wedding registry (on Amazon, natch) and I think set out to buy the strangest thing on it. Let's just say he succeeded. It's predictable, low-brow, and horrendously racist in bits, and kind of hilarious anyway.

Um...is that OUR Forrest J. Ackerman as Judge Rhinehole?

Actually, I think it's probably MY Forrest J. Ackerman.

There are in fact two Forrest J. Ackermen, who occupy the same space simultaneously -- there's 4E, the Ackerman of Science Fiction Fandom, and then there's Dr. Ackula, of Famous Monsters of Filmland, beloved of Monster Kids everywhere, the Ackerman of Horror Movie Fandom.

I find it amusing, as someone who occasionally traverses the rift between discrete fan continua, that there are two distinct, non-overlapping fandomains who both regard Forrest J. Ackerman with the same mix of awe and shame, while being largely unaware of his significance to other fandoms.

In my youth I used to read Famous Monsters of Filmland, and I had his how-to movie monster makeup book.

This is also the second (or perhaps third) Mark Pirro movie that I've seen. I've know I've seen Curse of the Queerwolf (again featuring 4E). (Plot summary: Raging homophobe Larry Smalbut is bitten by a queerwolf and thus becomes gay every month when the moon is full.)

It's entirely possible that I also saw Death Row Game Show back when I was in the Fleet. The year is right, and the production values are right, for a Fleet Flick. It's just ... well, memory fades.

Forry came here to KC at least twice and made many great and steadfast friends here.

Due to a last minute glitch at our SF Film Festival several years ago, I even got to drive him to an event. (Rush hour, person who was to pick him up and deliver him in a loaned hearse has the hearse crap out seriously.)

We had a nice car--Bonneville, and the person in our household who drove it to work and back got home just as I got the call. I picked Forry up from the hotel that was close to our house in Midtown and took him out to the festival theater in Independence, MO.

He is a very gracious, pleasant person.

So I straddle those two worlds. Because of Forrey, Bob Clampett used to play babysitter for me when there were public functions at which my folks wanted to go to events I didn't (this is not as cool as my ex-girlfriend who used to have Danny Thomas as her babysitter, but we can't all be that special.
