Do you have any solid links? Since I didn't know anything about it, I went to Technorati and clicked on the top topic, "Bush Indictment," and all I saw were blog stories about "Bush Indictment" being the top topic on Technorati.

I realize I'm just making the problem worse by commenting on it. But I'd like to see some evidence that this isn't just somebody's pet Nigritude Ultramarine.

comment from Francis on 10.Aug.05

As far as I can make out, some idiot made a blog post about a possible Bush indictment. Someone saw it and propogated it. It hit Technorati and a lot of right wing weblogs made the observation it didn't exist- thus propelling the "Bush indictment" further up the rankings (and people searching for this phenomenon propelled it still further). This continued to grow under its own weight.

Storm in a teacup, and Teresa is just having fun adding yet another hit to technorati.

Given that it's difficult to think of anyone or anything outside the Double Super Secret Frat Party that he hasn't damaged, humanity may have to wait its turn down the list.

Though just as a talking point, we could let the Native Alaskans start. The Vintut Gwich'in should probably go first, though they might want to stand aside for the caribou. (I would certainly want to.)

While I am skeptical about the "Bush indictment" story, I'm as liberal as they come. Feel free to look at more of my blog than just the linked article. I have all kinds of stuff in there boosting Democrats for office, supporting liberal causes, and I publish pornographic pictures of frogs (amphibian porn...Whoo-Hoo!) every Wednesday. That's what I said. Wednesday is Naked Frog Blog Day at Blanton's and Ashton's. Why, my site's sub-title is "Article. II. Section. 4." That's the section of the US Constitution that deals with impeaching presidents.

There are allegations that US nationals engaged in raping children in front of their parents in Baghdad, on video footage turned in by a US service member to DoD, that DoD was sued regarding the footage and is effectively in contempt of court refusing to release it.

The alleged activities happened on Schmuck's watch (or deliberate inattention as in "if I wear blinders and put selective bandpass filters in my ears I won't see or hear anything untoward or be apprised of it..." He has said words to the effect of his subordinates prescreen material to be related to him p/l/a/y t/e/l/e/p/h/o/n/e w/i/t/h (the variety where the message gets rewritten at each level along the way) in their words and opinions (and heavily filtered)). The US Executive Branch has been playing coverup for the level of obscenity and ugliness for many months, first covering over the prisoner abuse and torture which did get discusses in Congress--note that the Congresscritters said that there were worse pictures they'd seen than the ones which got shown by the US media.

http://www.sundayherald.com/43796

Iraq's Child Prisoners

A Sunday Herald investigation has discovered that coalition forces are holding more than 100 children in jails such as Abu Ghraib. Witnesses claim that the detainees – some as young as 10 – are also being subjected to rape and torture

By Neil Mackay

It was early last October that Kasim Mehaddi Hilas says he witnessed the rape of a boy prisoner aged about 15 in the notorious Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq. “The kid was hurting very bad and they covered all the doors with sheets,” he said in a statement given to investigators probing prisoner abuse in Abu Ghraib. “Then, when I heard the screaming I climbed the door … and I saw [the soldier’s name is deleted] who was wearing a military uniform.” Hilas, who was himself threatened with being sexually assaulted in Abu Graib, then describes in horrific detail how the soldier raped “the little kid”.

...Proof of the widespread arrest and detention of children in Iraq by US and UK forces is contained in an internal Unicef report written in June. The report has – surprisingly – not been made public...

01 August 2004

http://watchingthewatchers.org/story/2005/7/23/121327/078

=============================

How short is the US media attention span and how forgetful/stupid do the spinmeisters think the citizenry are, anyway? There were the prisoner abuse revelations how many months ago? Rove's alleged capital crimes have been excised from mainstream media attention, etc.

The Oval Office Oaf reminds of of Nicolae Ceausescu:

http://www.moreorless.au.com/killers/ceausescu.html

"killer file

"Nicolae Andruta Ceausescu
"AKA 'Genius of the Carpathians'.

"Country: Romania.

"Kill tally: An estimated 5,000 killed during the 1989 revolution that overthrows Ceausescu. Possibly thousands of deaths per year during the 1980s from deprivations caused by an unnecessary austerity program. Tens of thousands more lives ruined during Ceausescu's reign.

"... At home Ceausescu initially adopts a relatively liberal approach to freedom of speech. But...he begins to cash in on his promotion of Romanian nationalism to fuel a Ceausescu personality cult.

"1966 - New laws are introduced to engineer an increase in the size of Romania's population. "The foetus is the property of the entire society," Ceausescu states, "Anyone who avoids having children is a deserter who abandons the laws of national continuity."

"Abortion and contraception are outlawed, childless couples face higher taxes, divorce is discouraged, and sex education prohibited. The birth-rate almost doubles, but is accompanied by a leap in infant mortality and unwanted pregnancies...in 1989 over 100,000 handicapped and orphaned children are discovered living in horrific conditions.

"...Securitate agents will be allowed to conduct surveillance on private citizens with impunity. Contacts with foreigners are monitored, mail is screened, telephones tapped, and homes and offices broken into. Those suspected of disloyalty to the regime are arrested and interrogated. Prominent dissidents suffer more severe forms of harassment, including physical violence and imprisonment.

"...Ceausescu could have been a hero but instead went down the killing road. His commitment to Romanian independence was poisoned by paternalism and his belief in his own infallibility - hubris, that age-old companion to despots...."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Communist_Romania

"...Many would be loath to admit it now, but in his early years in power, Ceauşescu was genuinely popular, both at home and abroad. Agricultural goods were abundant, consumer goods began to reappear, there was a cultural thaw, and, most importantly abroad, he spoke out against the 1968 Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia. While his reputation at home soon paled, he continued to have uncommonly good relations with western governments and with institutions such as the International Monetary Fund and World Bank because of his independent political line...

The period of freedom and apparent prosperity was to be short-lived. Even at the start, reproductive freedom was severely restricted. Wishing to increase the birthrate, in 1966, Ceauşescu promulgated a law restricting abortion and contraception: only women over the age of 40 or who already had at least four children were eligible for either; in 1972 this became women over the age of 45 or who already had at least five children.

Other abuses of human rights were typical of a Stalinist regime: a massive force of secret police (the "Securitate"), censorship, massive relocations, but not on the same scale as in the 1950s...

...Another legacy of this era was pollution, with Ceauşescu's government scoring badly on this count even by the standards of the Eastern European communist states.

...Health care dropped substantially, as drugs were no longer imported. Life expectancy became the lowest in Europe, and infant mortality rates highest.

Control over society became stricter and stricter, with an East-German-style phone bugging system installed, and with Securitate recruiting more agents, extending censorship and keeping tabs and records on the entire population. By 1989, according to CNSAS (the Council for Studies of the Archives of the Former Securitate), one in three Romanians was an informant for the Securitate....

Regarding the possibility of the US Executive Branch falling if someone does find a way to take effective legal action that the Reponsibility Evader can't revade, Italy regularly had its government fall during the 1970s, it was no big deal there, the country continued to function despite the government falling again and again and again there.

==========================

I'm nostaglic for the tenure of Fr. Robert F. Drinan in Congress, he was the the closest thing to an incorruptible politician, and he was the representative for the district my parents were in and I was a legal resident of.

http://www.bcheights.com/media/paper144/news/2003/04/29/Features/Remembering.Watergate-427779.shtml

Remembering Watergate

BC alumnus and former law school dean started Nixon accusations in Senate 30 years ago

By Stephanie Hauser

"I was the first to file the resolution of impeachment against Nixon," said Fr. Robert F. Drinan, SJ, former dean of Boston College Law School 1956-70 and current Georgetown law professor. After his tenure at BC, Drinan, a Jesuit priest and a lawyer, was elected to Congress under the Democratic Party, a position that a priest had not previously filled. As a member of the House Judiciary Committee, Drinan witnessed every stage of the Watergate scandal and played an important role in the move to impeach Nixon...

[Tip O'Neil, House Majority Leader, war origially reluctant regarding impeaching Nixon, but] a little less than a year later, O'Neill was an avid supporter of the House Judiciary Committee's investigation of Nixon. Despite this, he still remained reserved and upheld the United States' policy of innocent until proven guilty, which is evident in another letter dated Dec. 3, 1973.

"I would point out that any failure to investigate the President would be a dereliction of duty and subject the presidency to continuous mistrust and speculation," 'Neill wrote, in response to a voter's disagreement with the impeachment hearings...
But Paula, what if those kids' parents knew the location of a ominously ticking atomic bomb in downtown Wichita, right under a building full of nuns and orphans?
[\self-righteous right-wing wanker sneer]

*Sigh.* I occasionally run into people on-line who actually think like that. The fact that fellow americans can defend infamy so blithely is almost as discouraging as the fact of the infamy itself.

In fifty years, these wankers will be longing for the good old days of Bush II the way some Russians long for Stalin's reign.

* * *

There's a story (to be fair, perhaps apocryphal) from the first Gulf Way, in which a general talks about suppressing footage of Iraqi grunts getting cut to pieces with fire from a helicopter gun ship.

Paraphrasing: "Cripes, if this got out, they wouldn't let us have wars any more."

If the pictures, sound, and video that Seymor Hersh describes is as bad as it sounds, and they get out, the DOD is going to be in for a really thorough mucking out.

I have no idea, and I've been wondering what is up with that myself.

My initial impression was that Hersh had copies of the really bad stuff, which was also made available to Congress and that Rumsfeld himself described as really bad.

Was Hersh given an offer he could not refuse? Is he waiting for the right time? Did he have second thoughts, perhaps believing that the footage is so awful that the reaction to it would put Americans in danger?

Time will tell.

After the particularily harsh winter 1984/1985, during which the Romanians had to endure cold homes and food shortages, Ceausescu held a press conference for foreign journalists.

One reporter:

- We have a lot of information on an energy crisis that has affected Romania during this winter and which caused, among other problem, a shortage of warm water and heating in the homes. What has caused this and what measures have been taken?

Ceausescu:

- Yes, it is true, we had a lot of problems during the winter because the huge quantity of snow blocked the rail lines and the coal trains could not get to the power plants. We had to reduce the amount of energy used for heating in order to keep the industry running, but nobody died of freezing.

Another reporter:

- We have heard that there are food shortages in Romania and that much food is exported in order to pay Romania's foreign debt. What can you say about this?

Ceausescu:

- Yes, it is true, we have certain obligations to fulfill and this means that we have to export food and this causes shortages, but nobody has died of starvation.

A third reporter:

- Mister Ceausescu, when you saw that both cold and starvation had failed, why didn't you try nerve gas?

I am so ashamed that I wasted my vote on bush. What was I thinking? Why did I let my right wing extremist, neo-conservative, neo-evangelical thinking get in the way of exercising sound personal judgment? If being conservative means fleecing this nation, getting our people killed for the control of oil, murdering innocent people, shifting the direction of our economy back to the dark un-prosperous days of reaganomics and destroying the middle and lower classes of this country to benefit the rich & elite, then a lot of people need to re-evaluate what they think they are when they say that they are conservative. Why? Because that is exactly what has been happening to this country over the last 5 years thanks to those who claim to be conservative or neo-conservative. These are the same people who fear truth or facts about what's really going on in our government. Anytime someone exposes the lies of the bush cabinet, these so called conservatives have a pattern of accusing people of believing liberal lies. It’s pretty bad when truth is crying out to be heard and it is continually reduced to being liberal lies by those who claim to be conservative or even Christian. Those of you who support bush should all be ashamed. The following is not a pro Clinton or pro Democrat statement but simply a statement of fact and those who ignore this are hypocrites. These so called conservatives and republicans raked Clinton over the coals for his indiscretion with an intern. However, the very same people condone the murder of our citizens and Iraqi civilians, blatant lies from bush and his cabinet and a presidency that is extremely fiscally unsound with the underlying goal of raiding the nation’s treasury to benefit the rich and wealthy. The facts are all on the surface and bush supporters seem to enjoy having that knife further twisted in their backs by bush and his administration. Man…Nixon got impeached for offences far less then that.

He personally did not have this done. He would not be trusted with such an assignment. He knew his cronies would be doing it, and he didn't know to what extent he would be in danger. Hence, his [non] action when he heard the "news" and the way he fled in his plane, making sure he was as far away from danger as possible. Such courage.

more on this "NESARA law" from the sane side:

NESARA Scam

NESARA is an acronym for the National Economic Stabilization and Recovery Act, which is a legislative proposal that merely reintroduces specie as alternative currencies to help combat anti-inflationary policies of the paper currency. The NESARA proposal is sponsored by the “NESARA Institute”, having offices at 7635 Jefferson Highway, No. 354, Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70809 (Ph: 864-886-0657). Although the NESARA proposal has been presented to many Congresspersons over the years, and some have expressed interest in the proposal, it hasn't yet built up sufficient support for even introduction to Committee, much less to a full vote by Congress. Maybe someday the NESARA proposal will find support in Congress and may be presented for a vote, but that really isn't the point of this webpage. (You can read all about NESARA at www.nesara.org). The point of this webpage is that when certain scam artists claim that NESARA has been "enacted into law" by "secret Acts of Congress" they are telling a great big lie and total fabrication because NESARA has never even been formally made into a Bill or presented for either a Committee vote or a full vote or Congress

And it goes on to explain what the scam is up to. (For those of you who believe in NESARA, it's all bad news.)
