I saw the thread title and immediately thought,"Vote the Tor ticket in 2012."

No doubt fund raising will start soon. Maybe a tip jar at the party?

comment from Bob Webber on 8.Aug.08

Hey, Mark Wise:

Your second sentence irks me. While a donation jar at a convention party is not unheard-of, at a publisher's party it would be a once-in-a-career spectacle.

Asking people who know you to help schlep some party supplies at a worldcon is a completely different kettle of fans from asking for money from party guests. Your comment unfortunately juxtaposes a jest with a minor insult.

Hey, Bob Webber,

The whole comment was a joke. The tip jar was clearly meant as the way to start a political party, not to buy the drinks.

Me, I think that they should start an aristocracy instead, and prepend everybody important's name with Tor. So I'd be Abi Torsutherland. You could be Bob Torwebber. And of course there'd be Patrick and Teresa Tornielsen Torhayden...

Anyone there named Kosigan?

One could quite legitimately bestow the title of Earl so as to avoid confusion with the pesky Barrayarans, with Precedence then settled by the date of creation of the title.

Of course, FTL might lead to arguments over that.
