I'm not sure that I can explain why, but I vastly prefer Owen to
Sassoon. I understand Sassoon is supposed to be technically
superior, and maybe that is my difficulty. I read Sassoon, and I
see an anti-war poet that would be accepted and approved by polite
society, all listeners suitably chastened and saddened in the
salon.
I read Owen, and I am trying to stuff my best friend's intestines
back into his belly.
