London is definitely more cosmopolitan than the rest of the country, although pretty much every decent-sized British city has a fair proportion of first, second and third generation immigrants. It's only out in the rural areas that it's a white monoculture and even that's beginning to change. Here's a bunch of reports from the Guardian on London's ethnic mix.

Jennifer: yep, it was an attempted reference to the first AP film.

My advice is: try to run your plot as a roleplaying game and watch as your players by-pass your carefully convoluted storyline with the simple "don't drown him in a pool filled with ill-tempered sea bass with lasers, just shoot him" shortcut. Of course, this sometimes works out the other way round when, no matter how many heavy-handed hints and clues you leave them, they insist on following up that red herring to the bitter and disappointing end.

I don't know if it's limited to a UK-ism, but "half and half" refers to chips (fries) and rice over here.

If people are looking for film references here, I was reminded more of "Manhattan Murder Mystery" than of "Fargo".
