Teresa and Xopher, I'm so sorry. A similar thing happened to a friend with diabetes who took Rezulin. It's been removed from the market because of potential liver damage, and now his blood sugar zings up and down. His liver's fine, though.
My congressworms are all Republican--remember John Cornyn, box turtles, and activist judges?--but I'll try to talk to them again.
Wishing you peace, with or without more Cylert. I still cling to Patrick's Christmas from a few years ago: Fear not. I realize this is a pretty tall order when faced with some of your top nightmares.
Thank you for reminding me of this song, Patrick. I listen to the Jennifer Warnes version whenever I can find it. We own it, but I admit that I am powerless over music, and my music is unmanageable.
I never did thank you for the Carlton Draught Beer ad, which I have bookmarked. Now I have something to giggle about whenever I play Carmina Burana. It's dreadful to be a classical musician and have words by Allen Sherman, Fred Waring, et al running through your mind as you play the world's greatest music.
Peace to all on all holidays,
Madeleine
sympathies to you, Patrick, and the neighbors and peace to all.
And in Texas, I and a bunch of perfect strangers danced a boogey-type conga line in Pizza Hut when the news came on TV. The real thrill is that 12 or so honest people exist. I was beginning to doubt. Down here, the Bugman got power.
Thank you, Mr. Ford. (And for your fiction writing as well.) I will go take a walk. Then I will report to the shelter for duty.
Peace,
Madeleine
Your donations are not wasted! Please keep them coming. We're sheltering thousands in Austin, and we opened a service center today to start distributing. (I have no idea why it's taken a week to get this point.)
I too volunteered to go to New Orleans, and here I thought it thought it was concern for my little pink hide that made them say they weren't sending teams yet.
We'd love to have you, Rachel--we're WAY short on caseworkers. I was told yesterday that "national support" was going to be money and advice, not trained bodies.
The prez-dropping scenario sounds nice, but I wish he'd come do my job for a day or sixteen and listen to all the grief, when all you have to offer is pack of peanuts and a few bucks. In the end, it's not about the money, which is not to say we don't need an ocean of it. Thanks for what you've sent, from me and a bunch of grateful folks, the lucky ones who escaped with their lives (but not much else).
Peace,
Madeleine
When John Kerry was my senator, I sent him many a letter and never received a response. Now I get several emails from him every week. Moveon, Act for Change, Progressives Anonymous, and all other vaguely liberal organizations swamp my inbox too.
In the advice department of Barn Door, Shutting Belatedly, I have given all these folks a spamgourmet.com address. Their mail is handled differently than pure spam, and if my outrageometer is overloaded this week, I can safely ignore them until I'm ready to go to political war again. It's hard to support everything that needs supporting.
